Local History //Essay +5 points ;D
For Derwin Emerson -- this certainly is the case.
Emerson was born and raised in Jonesport, Maine. Being a coastal region of the State, Jonesport provided Derwin with plenty of fishing oppertunities (as well as 'worming', sardine factories and boat building). Between he and his brothers, Emerson remember keeping to very odd jobs. The first being: walking up a hill to a small cabin where posters of Aircrafts in silhouette. Jonesport being a tight-knit community, relied on the boys to identify the planes that flew over the town.
At this time the Cold War with Russia was happening, and so the government paid Derwin and his brothers to sit and observe through binoculars from dusk till dawn. At the end of the end they gave in their reports, and immediately sent notice should a 'red' plane be seen. None, however did.
The second jov Derwin contributed to was shooting sea gulls. Armed with a .22 caliber and a bagged lunch, the boys trudged through acres and acres of blueberry fields before settling down for the day. At this point in time, Sea Gulls were considered to be 'protected', however since they were destroying the crops it was alright to shoot them.
Besides identifying planes and shooting a protected species; Derwin was justa normal kid. Participating in sports such as baseball and basketball, as well as 'playing guns' and ice skating when the weather permitted. It was a time of the Lone Ranger and Rin Tin Tin, and Derwin and his friends would spend countless hours outside playing in the forest out back his house.
Throughout the course of his life Derwin Emerson, much like the rest of us, encountered moments and unimaginable disasters that impacted his life. For the better or for the worse -- who knows, but the outcome remains the same.
The Beetles and their rocketing success, New York Yankees winning the World Series several years -- as always a powerhouse. Attending a secondary school in Charleston named Higgins Classical Institute, sometimes called 'Huge Collection of Idiots' as a joke among friends. Here at HCI, Derwin encountered many a different races. It was a place where everyone was accepted.
The "Bay of Pigs" invasion, which launched three days after Kennedy assumed presidency in the United States. However, the fight only lasted three days.
The Death of the 'King' Elvis sculpted Derwin as well as the many assassinations of JFK, RFK, ML King, John Lennon and the attemped assassination of President Regan.
Derwin remembers Watergate and Jogn Dean's week long testimony! As well as President Nixon leaving in disgrace to the office of the MOST powerful country in the world.
Rolling stones and Mick Jagger! The 70's -- in general -- with all the 'hippys' and drug controversies, including the promiscuous entities that come with it.
Ted Bundy, Jim Jones, The hooded terrorists in Munich as well as the unforgettable fight between Muhammad Ali and George Forman.
All of these events have turned Derwin into what he is today; an well-known, successful aged man at Nokomis Regional High. From a boy to a teacher whose hosted witness to more than his fair share of America's greatest and worse moments.

IMperialism Essay
“Our fighting blood was up, and we all wanted to kill 'niggers' ... the shooting human beings beats rabbit hunting all to pieces.” From this quote sends a terrible, terrible image of the United States. We are suppose to be he land of the free, not the land of indifference. Who are you to judge someone upon race? Who are you to take it upon yourself and take someone's life? It's past the point of return on the scale of barbaric-ness. That a man of an African American race should be lynched, burned and mutilated on a daily basis of two times a week. That between the years of 1889 and 1903 ... this was the norm.
“We will not renounce our part in the mission of our race, trustee, under God, of the civilization of the world ...” It should seem we have founded our country on lies. Who are we to play the part of God? Is there no such thing as religion freedom? Or were the notions set on the Bill of Rights just a half-hearted promise. “ That there was nothing left for us to do but to take them all and to educate the Filipinos, and uplift and civilize and Christianize them, and by God's grace do the very best we could by them, as our fellow men for whom Christ also died. And then I went to sleep and slept soundly.”
Where do I begin? Are we so ignorant as to consider the Filipinos as savage creatures incapable of education and empathy, let alone the ability to seek spiritual guidance? I imagine this quote to portray the same scenario that involved the Native American's – who had everything in the world. And in the end the Government took that away from them, too. Their homes, their Gods, and even their children. But, it was only to be expected – right? All America wants is more.
“And so, by these Providences of God – and the phrase is the government's, not mine – we are a World Power.” Whether it be the Government who spoke it, Ted Bundy, or even the Holy Ghost himself – I could not agree anymore with this. It is as if were are so reliant on material items; more weapons, more fighters, more money – that we cannot see past our insecurities and into the truth. We aren't considered intimidating without some form of bloodshed. We cannot be taken seriously without a bit of brutality handed to those who never truly deserved it.
We, as a country, are having an identity crisis. So well do we wear the mask of injustice and imperialism, that we forget our own morals. Our own truths. We've sunk so far through the holes of corruption that all we can do is fight blindly in the dark. We traded in our equality for racism; religious freedom for hatred; and understanding for unforgiving ignorance.
But what more could you expect through Imperialism?

Horse Psychology // Human Psychology - Research, NOT DONE!
Horses are creature of habit; quick to flee and undoubtedly curious toward unknown things. Much like people, horses prefer the company of others and the saying, 'security in numbers', could not be any more true in this situation.

Civil War Questions :P
- Most Natives did not have enough money as other races had, and so were considered as the 'poorer' people in the world. Tribes who a casino, much like the Mashantucket Pequots of Connecticut who own the casino Foxwoods are indeed rich. Not a lot of many Native Americans own productive casino. 48 tribes only make more than 10 million dollars a year on gambling. Looking at how the indians were know as being the poorest people in the world,it was because of those two tribes that changed peoples view entirely.
2. What is the most significant problem of trying to understand the condition of the modern Native American population?
It is a bit tricky to understand, because there are so many within the Native group whom of which belonged to more than five-hundred tries. For each tribe there is a different history to understand, a different path from where each tribe came from and therefore causes a great deal of difficultly.
3. In what ways are Native Americans a unique minority group in the United States? Do these reasons seem justified today, or should Native Americans be considered as a "regular" minority group (like African Americans, Asian Americans, women, etc.)?
They were considered a unique group, because they were the only form of a minority group that signed the peace treaty with the United States government and the only ethic group with a government agency. The Natives should
4. Please find 4 specific examples of the sorts of events generalized in this paragraph. For each specific example, include a hyperlink to a website explaining the specific event, and a summary of that event.

- The United States made more than 400 treaties with the Native Americans tribes in the 1820's because they wanted to secure their borders with the Native Americans

- The Cherokees were a Native tribe that lived in the Western part of the U.S until the whites came over and kicked the Native Americans out of that area. The Cherokee people even had a treaty to keep them safe.

- Native American children were sent to boarding schools run by the government away from their home where it was a bad place for them to be because they would get horrible beatings.

Natives were at the bottom of the pecking order, and surely weren't making the same amount as the Americans; if half. The phrase above means that Native Am. couldn't afford to take care of themselves, unlike the rest of the people with decent paying jobs and money, the natives were stuck with a title that people forever known. Therefore, causing the Natives to turn to alcohol, which only induces the problem.
I didn't think he was right to say what he did: It's not a national disgrace. Much could be done for the Natives, yes, but when you've got children of your own its hard to spare money when its sparse as is.
- removal - To change residence
- allotment - a portion or thing granted
- termination - an end or extremity
- relocation - to move to a different location
- assimilation - The process whereby a minority group adopts the custom of the prevailing culture
- self determination - freedom to live as one chooses.
What the Natives should learn is how to take care of themselves, and be able to stand up on their feet. Self-determination was lacking and the Indians, try as they might, could not take things into their own hands and progress forward. The Government has its hands so tight around the tribe and ruling it their way and not the Natives. By making war, treaties and permitting them to own land collectively; forcing them onto reservations, then off of them. Children boarding schools hundreds of a miles from their home, closing those schools down and sending the children elsewhere. Everything that happened to the Native Americans was because of the Government, they had no say in what was to happen to them.

JFK Assassination Email
I was in 9th grade. It was announced over the intercom at school. It was a shocking announcement. He was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald, they said he was shot 2times, once in the back and then in the head. He shot and killed a cop who stopped him after he fled from the scene. He was suppose to have run into a theater and that’s where they found him and arrested him. He was suppose to have denied being the shooter. Not long after they arrested him they were transporting him to a county jail and some guy named Jack Ruby went up to him (while they escorted him to a vehicle) and shot him in the stomach. They actually took him to the same hospital that Kennedy died in and tried to save him, but he died. I don’t remember what happened to Ruby
Then there were rumors that some government leaders arranged his demise. I don’t believe that.
Kennedy was not a saint either, during his presidency he was having affairs. This is about all I remember. Hope it is enough.

Tsar Bomba D:

I would be scared beyond all recognition to know that a bomb as strong and powerful as Tsar Bomba could be used on the U.S and kill people from a landing point at Florida all the way up to New York. Also, with technology being as new as it is and not everyone understanding it as much as they do now. I don't know what I would have done. What really is there to be done? I know I might try to move my family to a country that wasn't in such a hostile situation. And hope to God I got it out in time. Plus, living in a constant worry and fear as to when Tsar Bomba may hit would be nerve wrecking.

Carter Speeeeeeeeeech D;<
What is the real threat to America, according to Carter, and is that threat still with us today?
The 'real threat', according to Carter, is that we have a moral crisis; from things like taking gas from the middle east, which is causing more inflation when our oil amount is far greater than theirs. However, compared to the larger image of Democracy our people are losing faith in themselves and America, because we're held down by the Middle East and it's oil. We are not free if we purchase their supplies. However, if we started to find a remedy to the energy problem then America could break free of that image and become what everyone believes it to be: free.
What Carter says about American society and analyze America today against Critique.
What he says I really don't believe in, truthfully. That America is more about materialistic-esque of owning things and our status; than the hardships and sarcrifices of what we do to make ourselves who we are. That half of the U.S is not voting and that jobs throughout the U.S is dropping rapidly. However, said things do not fill the void that people hold, emptiness. That our own teachers, government and media are reporting things to us that do not help with our overall moral.

Reagan Essay
Was he revolutionary, nothing special, or racist? Many people have different opinions on who he was and how he helped the United States. There was conservatism, tax cuts, and anti-communism happening during his presidential reign. He started in office by saying the government was the problem to the economy and that together we would all fix that. He slowly started helping the economy become better, and with time helped the U.S
He helped with anti-communism and helped support the Russians for the wall to be taken down and to capture the evil communism. Ronald Regan also helped put an end to the cold war which had been going on for a year, and would've continued longer if he hadn't had stepped in.Also, with good intention he came up with 'War on Drugs'. Reagan, too me, was the last thing I would consider racist -- his intentions were noble when the country was on the verge of disaster. And because of him, he made drastic changes for our country that contributed to both us and Russia.
